(The Place to Connect with a Small Group)
What is a Small Group? A Small Group is a small gathering of friends that meet for voluntary, intentional, face-to-face gatherings with the shared goals of developing a love relationship with God and others. Small Groups are a place to do life together: living, learning, eating, playing, and resting together. Groups are encouraged to not just be about Bible study but include relational activities like sharing meals together, serving together, and having fun! At The Link we encourage everyone to be a part of a Small Group.
- Small - Size is determined by the ability to maintain intimacy within the group.
- Voluntary - No one is forced to be there.
- Intentional - There is a purpose in our meeting.
- Face-to-Face - We experience real "live" interaction.
- Regularly Meeting - There is consistency in our gathering together.
- Relationship with God - We get to know Jesus and become more like Him.
- Relationship with Others - We genuinely reach out and connect with people.
So What is a Sermon Based Small Group?
It seems like every church in the nation is doing something different with Small Groups. With so many options available it was certainly a difficult choice as to which option would work best for us at The Link. After some research we came across the book “Sticky Church” by Larry Osbourne. After reading through the book as a staff we decided that we would implement the method Larry Osbourne had successfully used at his church for the past 20 years. His method was the Sermon Based Small Group.
Sermon Based Small Groups are all about getting our Small Groups on the same page. The main concept behind this method is that Small Groups will discuss and expand on the information they received during the previous weeks Sermon. Hold on!! Before you get excited about Small Groups just repeating the exact same information that the Pastor shared, keep reading. While the Small Groups do discuss the topic that was shared in the Sermon they actually go much deeper. In fact, more often than not, a group will not even discuss the same Scripture verses that were shared on Sunday. They will, however, be discussing Scripture that relates to the same topic that was discussed and how the group members can actively incorporate the lessons and Scriptures into their daily lives. Another wonderful result of this method is that it puts the congregation on common ground. All of the Small Groups will be discussing the same information and will have a common topic for discussion every week during worship. This will help to build new and strengthen existing relationships.
We are very excited about the relationships that will be built through the use of this method of Small Groups and hope that you will join us on this journey.

A great way to experience a Small Group and also learn about The Link, Jesus and the Bible is Pre-Link. Pre-Link is short term (eight sessions) Small Group led by a leader of The Link. Pre-Link is a safe conversational environment where people can explore faith, experience community and learn more about Jesus and The Link.
